17 February 1954
Growing up in the heart of the film industry, it's not hard to imagine that with her
striking good looks and tall stature, Rene would find herself venturing into
the realm of entertainment.
The story goes that at age eighteen Rene was discovered at a Rolling Stones concert where she
was encouraged to pursue a career in modeling. She took the advice to heart and made the move
to New York where she became a top model for the Ford Modeling Agency, going on to grace the
covers of virtually every fashion magazine throughout the late 1970s and 1980s.
Rene's desire to make the transistion to screen was a natural choice, but doing so at the age of
thirty-three was almost unheard of. By Hollywood standards, Rene was too old. But she persisted and in 1989 she was cast in the
comedy "Major League". It soon became apparent that Rene was a natural talent and was here to
stay. Several roles quickly followed, but it was "Lethal Weapon 3", opposite Mel Gibson, that
served in bringing her closer to the public's eyes.
With only a handful of films to her credit, Rene is already considered one of Hollywood's
favorite actresses, and continues to be given juicy roles opposite high profile leading
men, such as Mel Gibson, Dustin Hoffman, Pierce Brosnan and Kevin Costner.
An interesting piece of trivia, is that Rene attended high school with her "Ransom" director,
Rene is married to screenplay writer, Dan Gilroy, whom she met on the set of "Freejack". They
live in a beautiful Brentwood home with their daughter, Rose.
