MIRANDA RICHARDSON
3 March 1958
Lancashire, England
Elfin, feisty and with a flare for a dramatic role this very English thespian is also a very
watchable comic turn as was demonstrated in BBC TV's "Black Adder" in the UK where she played
Elizabeth I as a spoilt child who always got her way.
"Dance With a Stranger" was surely one of Miranda's finest moments when she played Ruth Ellis,
the last woman in Britain to be hanged, in a disturbing tale of a crime of passion. A command
of European and American accents has seen Miranda appear almost Chameleon-like at times and
another well chosen role came in 1994 opposite Rutger Hauer in "Fatherland" where she played an
American reporter ready to reveal the horror of the Third Reich in a tale set in 60's Europe
after the Germans had supposedly triumphed in WWII.
Her 16 year association with Rowan 'Mr Bean' Atkinson in the hilarious period comedies that
make up the "Black Adder" saga continued in 1999, and she was a natural voice talent for
"Chicken Run" alongside Mel Gibson.
