Gwyenth Paltrow is the daughter of movie producer Bruce Paltrow and award-winning actress Blythe Danner. When she was eleven they moved to New York where she attended Spence School. After graduation, she decided to pursue her passion for acting and moved to California and attended the University of California in Santa Barbara, majoring in Art History. But later she quit, realizing that it was acting which was in her blood.
She went on to act in the Williamstown Theatre play Picnic, opposite her mother.
Her first film audition resulted in an offer for a supporting role in the feature film Shout opposite John Travolta. Later, a chance meeting with Steven Spielberg led to her role as Wendy in Hook. It was her performance in the title role in Emma that led to her being offered the role of Viola in Shakespeare in Love, which turned out to be a mutilple award winning performance.
