Laura Linney is daughter to a playwright father and nurse mother. She studied at Brown
University before moving on to Juilliard. Upon graduation, Laura went on to appear in such
Broadway plays as Hedda Gabler, a part which earned her a l994 Calloway Award, The
Seagull, and Six Degrees of Separation. She won a Theater World Award and a Drama
Desk nomination for her performance in Sight Unseen.
Linney received critical acclaim for her role as a tough prosecuting attorney in the suspense
thriller Primal Fear, in which she co-starred with Richard Gere and Edward Norton. She also
starred opposite Clint Eastwood in Absolute Power as the attorney daughter of a master thief.
Her other feature credits include roles in Lorenzo's Oil, Searching for Bobby Fischer but gained national notice with her critically acclaimed role as Jim Carrey's perky wife in The Truman Show. Her awe-inspiring performance in You Can Count On Me has won her even more fans.
Linney's television appearances include the leading role of Mary Ann Singleton in PBS's Tales of the City and in More Tales of the City, which aired on Showtime. She also starred opposite Joanne Woodward in the Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation Blind Spot.
She married stage actor David Adkins in 1995. They are now divorced.
