WENDY CREWSON
May 6, 1956
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
From the time Wendy Crewson was a girl, she wanted to be an actress. Her dad was in the farm implement business, so the family moved around a lot. But whenever there was an opportunity, Wendy appeared in school plays. Upon graduation from high school in Point Claire, Montreal, she first studied theatre arts at John Abbott College. Later, Crewson received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario before going on to study in London at Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts.
On her return to Canada, she got a role in the 1979 CBC-TV movie War Brides, and has worked steadily ever since. Terrified of the stage, she has kept her work focused on television and feature films. For her work in television, she received Gemini Award nominations for her work in I'll Never Get to Heaven and Getting Married in Buffalo Jump. In film, Wendy has teamed up with some of Hollywood's biggest stars, including Whoopi Goldberg, Richard Gere, Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Harrison Ford.
She lives with her actor husband Michael Murphy, and their two children Maggie, and Jack, in Toronto, Canada. She is also involved with raising funds for Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS) since starring in At the End of the Day: The Sue Rodriguez Story in 1998; a role which won her a Gemini Award. She is the patron of the Calgary, Alberta, Canada-based Betty's Run for ALS.
