Yancy Butler is third generation of a showbiz family. Her father Joe Butler, is drummer for the band, "Lovin' Spoonful". Her mother Leslie, was a company manager for Broadway shows, and her grandparents were also involved in various aspects of the theater.
At thirteen she studied at HB Studios in New York, and continued to do so until entering Sarah Lawrence College. Upon graduation, and with a dozen stage credits on her resume, she landed a guest star role in the drama Law & Order, which directly lead to her landing the lead role in the series Mann & Machine. She also appeared as a regular in the Miami Beach-based series South Beach. Later she moved into feature films, co-starring in the action flick, Hard Target, and in the skydiving adventure, Drop Zone. In 2001 she starred in her own TV series, Witchblade, based on the cult comic book.
