JULIETTE BINOCHE
March 9, 1964
Paris, France
Juliette Binoche is the daughter of two of France's leading stage actors, so it's not surprising that she followed in their footsteps. She studied acting at the Paris Conservatoire and The National School Of Dramatic Art of Paris, and by the age of twenty-one she was working with legendary director Jean-Luc Godard on Hail Mary.
Although she was already well-known in her native France, American audiences were not exposed to her talents until she made her American debut at the age of twenty-three in the critically acclaimed, Unbearable Lightness of Being opposite Daniel Day-Lewis.
With her exquisite beauty and slender five-foot-six frame gracing the silver screen, it's not surprising she was chosen in 1997 by People magazine as one of the "50 Most Beautiful People in the World", and ranked #93 in Empire magazine as one of "The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time", as well as one of the "100 Sexiest Stars in film history".
This French actress is revered by directors the world over for her introspective characterizations of the characters she plays, as well as for her timeless beauty. Her technique for convying the underlying emotions of her characters is beautifully subtle. Everything lies within the manipulation of her face and her expressive brown eyes. It's little wonder she has been compared to screen legend Ingrid Bergman.
She has two children, a son Raphaël born September 1993, with Andre Halle, and a daughter, Hannah, born December 1999.
