JAMES SPADER
February 7, 1960
Boston, Massachusetts
Although both of James Spaders parents had careers in the teaching profession, James was more
interested in pursuing a career in acting. So when he was 17 he dropped out of school,
moved to New York and enrolled in the Michael Chekhov Studio to study drama. Until landing
his first role in 1978's "Team Mates", James Spader
supported himself by busing tables, shoveling manure, and teaching yoga. Next came a
more substantial role in "Endless Love." During the 80s James continued to win roles in
television as well as feature films, but was tired of always being cast as the "yuppie".
Finally, in 1989, James Spader broke out of that mold with
the movie, "Sex, Lies and Videotape", a
part that won him the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival. This was the turning point
for James in terms of getting the proper recognition he deserved for his work. A few
years later, he costarred with Kurt Russell in the mega hit "Stargate", bringing
him international success.
James Spader is married to Victoria Kheel, whom he's known since 1979. They have two children
together, Sebastian and Elijah.
