Ewan McGregor is the nephew of well known UK actor Dennis Lawson who played Wedge [A pilot] in the original Star Wars movie, so it is maybe no surprise that McGregor felt he was destined for
his part as the young Obe Wan.
As Renton, the Edinburgh Junkie in Trainspotting, Ewan was the stand out performer in the film of Irvine Welsh's book and it made him an overnight success. The low budget but acclaimed British film Brassed Off saw Ewan swap the mean streets of Scotland's capital for a north of England Brass band and there was no holding him back after his apppearance beside Cameron Diaz in A Life Less Ordinary.
Married to a French lady, maybe Ewan's ultimate accolade came in a Scottish beer ad which asked
viewers to choose between 'Ewan or Sean' [Connery], to be mentioned in such company has
confirmed McGregor as the best known Scots actor of his generation and maybe only number 2 to Connery himself as the best known Caledonian thespian in the world.
