HEATH LEDGER biography
Heath Ledger grew up with his three sisters and parents, Sally and Kim, in Kalamunda, the hills
outside of Perth. Before aspirations of acting took complete hold, Heath wanted to become a
hockey player and was actually picked to represent Western Australia on the WA hockey team.
He began his acting career by enrolling in a local theater company at the age of ten and he soon began to appear on several Australian television series as well as stage. He continued his
stage work as a member of the Globe Shakespeare Company and the Midnight Youth Acting Company.
American audiences first saw the Australian-born actor on the Fox adventure series Roar,
which, ironically, brought Heath back to his home shores. The show was a period piece meant to
capitalize off of the success of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior
Princess. Heath played Conor, a Celtic prince with a destiny. The show caught on with
younger audiences, who found the young heartthrob irresistible. However, the Nielsens did
not, and the show was canceled due to poor ratings.
He co-starred in several independent films, including Black Rock, Paws and Two Hands, which screened at the Sundance Film Festival.
With his good looks and boyish charm, it's not surprising that Heath has easily found himself on the path of stardom. His fan base grew in leaps and bounds when first he took up a co-starring position opposite heartthrob Mel Gibson in the mega hit, The Patriot, then grabbed the lead in the medieval rocker, A Knight's Tale.
On his off time, Heath enjoys a number of activities including: tennis, snowboarding, surfing
climbing, painting, photography, playing guitar, and writing poetry.
