JUDE LAW
December 29, 1972
London, England
The younger child of two teachers, Jude Law at first attended a government school until it
became so violent that his parents transferred him to a private one. Jude began his acting
career at twelve years old, originally with the National Youth Music Theatre, but at seventeen
he dropped out of school to spend a year in the TV soap, Families.
Jude began his stage career in 1992, touring Italy in Pygmalion as Freddie. His London
stage debut was in The Fastest Clock in the Universe, in which he played the character
Foxtrot Darling. His first television appearance was in Thames TV musical of Beatrix Potter's,
The Tail of Gloucester, and from there, Jude continued to work in television for the next few years.
On film, Law played the lead in The Crane, a short film made for the British Film
Institute, which was shown as part of the 1992 London Film Festival. But he quickly grabbed
the attention of American audiences when he starred opposite Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman
in the sci-fi thriller, Gattaca. This exposure sent Jude on the road to stardom, and
won him roles opposite Stephen Fry and Vanessa Redgrave in Wilde, Jennifer Jason Leigh
in eXistenZ, and Kevin Spacey and John Cusack in Midnight In The Garden Of Good And
Evil.
As some people may suspect, Jude was named after the famous Beatles song, Hey Jude. He
has a son Rafferty by Sadie Frost.
Recently he set up a film company, Natural Nylon, with fellow friends and thespians Ewan McGregor, Sean Pertwee, and Johnny Lee Miller, Britain's hottest acting talent.
