BRENDAN FRASER - [Brendan James Fraser]
December 3, 1968
Indianapolis, Indiana
Brendan Fraser was born the fourth son of a Canadian career bureaucrat whose job for the
office of Tourism required the family to do a lot of traveling to such places as London,
Rome, the Netherlands, Switzerland, finally settling on Seattle. Always being the new
kid on the block, the new face in school, Brendan was always a bit of an outsider and never
really knew how to fit in.
For a while Brendan attended one of Canada's most elite and prestigious schools: Toronto's Upper
Canada College, of which he made the comment to Tribute magazine, "They encouraged
tremendous rivalry between different houses. We were like gang members in suits and ties."
He later graduated from The Cornish College of Arts in Seattle, Washington. He also studied at
the Stanley Kramer Actor's Workshop and was granted an internship at Seattle's Intiman Theater.
Less than a day away from Seattle, Brendan drove to Los Angeles in his mother's car to audition
for a role. He didn't get the part, but was not to be discouraged. He soon landed his first role
in the 1991 feature film Dogfight, opposite the late River Phoenix, and Lily Taylor.
The following year was a busy one for the six-foot-four actor, appearing in both School
Ties, and Encino Man, two films that showcased very different sides of the
young thespian. Work continued somewhat steady, but it wasn't until he beefed up and
stripped down for George Of The Jungle that his Hollywood star began to soar; audiences
were hooked and wanted to see more. A few smaller films followed, like Still Breathing,
and Gods And Monsters, and for a time it seemed that Brendan would spend
most of his time doing the Independant circuit. But fate had other plans for the blue-eyed hunk,
and he once again made a huge splash with the blockbuster hit The Mummy, and its sequel.
Brendan married actress Afton Smith on September 27, 1998. He has two dogs: Wiley and Lucy. One
of his favorite activities is photography.
