The son of Diana and Kirk, Michael Douglas has a brother, Joel, and two half-brothers, Peter
and Eric. He is a graduate of Choate Rosemary Hall, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at
Santa Barbara's University of California in 1968. After his graduation, he moved to New York
City to continue his studies with Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse, and Wynn
Handman at the American Place Theatre.
Shortly after his arrival, Michael was cast in the CBS Playhouse production of "The Experiment,"
which led to the lead role in his first film "Hail Hero!". In 1975 Michael stretched his
producer's wings with "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" after buying the rights from his
father and teaming up with Saul Zaentz. It went on to win him an Academy Award.
He was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace in 1998 because of his efforts to abolish
nuclear weapons and to stop the proliferation of small arms.
Michael has a son and daughter with wife, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, and another son, Cameron, from his marriage to Diandra.
