BILLY CRUDUP
July 8, 1968
New York, New York
Billy Crudup [pronounced: Crew-dup] is an ellusive type of guy, who is not much for talking
about his personal life, prefering instead to chat about his craft. He chooses to stay away
from mainstream movies, and even declined when asked to audition for the lead role in Titanic.
He goes for the more embittered, brooding, arrogant or morally anemic men, as seen by some
of his screen choices, in such films as Without Limits, The Hi-Lo Country and Sleepers.
He is drawn to the kinds of characters that strive for something they just can't seem to grasp,
and fight with their own moralities and weaknesses.
Crudup received his Masters degree in fine arts from New York University and also attended
the University of North Carolina. A veteran of the stage, Billy made his film debut in the
controversial drama, Sleepers, starring Robert De Niro, Brad Pitt and Jason Patric. His
talents were recognized, and work continued to come his way at a steady pace. He went on to
star in Woody Allen's Everybody Says I Love You with Tim Roth, Drew Barrymore and Julia
Roberts, and starred in Inventing The Abbotts opposite Liv Tyler and Joaquin Phoenix.
When he's not working, he spends most of his time with longtime girlfriend, actress Mary Louise Parker.
