SEAN CONNERY
August 25, 1930
Edinburgh, Scotland, UK
Sean Connery grew up in a hard working blue-collar family. His parents were poor, so at the
tender age of 13, Sean quit school in order to help support his family.
Sean joined the Royal Navy, but was released due to having ulcers. Nevertheless, Sean was
very active and took up bodybuilding, and in 1953 he was Scotland's representative in the Mr.
Universe contest where he placed third in the tall man's division. Connery has had many
jobs including: a tough laborer, chorus boy, lifeguard and even as a nude model for
art classes.
Once leaving school Sean Connery spent much of his time at libraries and traveled about preforming in plays. He got roles in stage productions including "Anna Christie", "Anna Karenina", and Arthur Miller's, "The Crucible". He had his first TV appearence in 1956, and signed a movie contract with MGM in the late 1950's, which led to a string of film roles.
In 1962 Sean Connery was cast as James Bond in "Dr.No". And even though Ian Fleming didn't
feel Sean suited the role of the fictional British agent, it was this role which made
Connery a major 60's icon. From there, three more Bond films followed.
